Of course, Keaton was already a star long before that Oscar-winning turn (hell, she was in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0068646\/\">The Godfather<\/a><\/em>!). Need a feel-good movie? There\u2019s plenty of the Nancy Meyers variety\u2014from <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0337741\/https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0337741\/\">Something\u2019s Gotta Give<\/a><\/em> (2004) to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0092605\/\">Baby Boom<\/a><\/em> (1986). Craving a deep belly laugh? Oh man, does <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0116313\/?bypassRefViewPref=1\">The First Wives Club<\/a><\/em> (1996) deliver. The list goes on. Her films\u2014especially those cozy, heartwarming \u201990s staples (my own personal entr\u00e9e was 1991\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0101862\/\">Father of the Bride<\/a><\/em>, a VHS that was forever on replay in my house)\u2014are always there to catch you when you fall and remind you that, after the meltdown, comes the happy ending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Off screen, she dressed like no one else. She might be one of the last stars about whom you could say, \u201cThat\u2019s so Diane Keaton,\u201d and everyone would know exactly what you meant. Wide-legged menswear, floppy hats, vests, gloves, and a wide tie\u2014the look she made famous as <em>Annie Hall<\/em>\u2014was her own creation. Originally, costume designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0605926\/\">Ruth Morley<\/a> had envisioned a more traditional, less \u201cformed\u201d style for the role, but Woody Allen encouraged Keaton to style herself. The resulting look: a mix of vintage menswear, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ralphlauren.ca\/?utm_source=PaidSearch&amp;pkwid=Brand_Bing_RLE_CA_BR_X_Core_Exact_ralph+lauren&amp;gclid=13bf2be976f91334b97243072e67d016&amp;gclsrc=3p.ds&amp;msclkid=13bf2be976f91334b97243072e67d016\">Ralph Lauren<\/a>, and pieces pulled directly from her own closet. While everyone else was wearing gowns on the red carpet, she gave us totally unexpected looks, like the all-white ensemble she <a href=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR2V11NQ3LxE6dzSaaEDagvYArjoePmCIGQlscBBguwQEdRBOYY\">wore<\/a> to the 1997 Academy Awards: a white double-breasted suit, a white turtleneck, a pearl choker, gloves, and big \u2018ole platform boots. Wow. Or one of my personal favourites: a distressed leather trench and matching maxi skirt, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shutterstock.com\/editorial\/image-editorial\/Mfz2MaxbMez9U456MjQx\/diane-keaton-440nw-330063h.jpg\">worn<\/a> with teeny raver sunglasses at the premiere of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0207201\/?mc_cid=0cd2bf5715&amp;mc_eid=UNIQID\">What Women Want<\/a><\/em> in 2003. Damn, Diane! More recently, she became the poster child for the \u201ccoastal grandmother\u201d aesthetic\u2014those monochromatic knits and easy silhouettes she wore so effortlessly in Meyers\u2019 films. She stayed single, and adopted two children in her fifties, something practically unheard of for a star of her generation (especially a former paramour of Warren Beatty\u2019s and Al Pacino\u2019s), and something she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DPt0BSwAIeF\/?img_index=1\">spoke<\/a> openly and candidly about on numerous occasions, kindly leaving a blueprint for living life on one\u2019s own terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keaton was the last of a certain kind\u2014unfiltered, funny, self-invented. A woman who could make neurosis look glamorous, aging look chic, and vulnerability look like power (just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/CjDqLE6gFVe\/\">watch<\/a> her making her <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0116313\/?bypassRefViewPref=1\">The First Wives Club<\/a><\/em> co-stars, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/bettemidler\/\">Bette Midler<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/goldiehawn\/\">Goldie Hawn<\/a>, quite literally double over while listening her talk about binge watching TV on <em>Oprah<\/em>). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If
