In fact, it\u2019s in her blood. \u201cMy father was an antiques dealer, so I grew up in New Zealand surrounded by art and beautiful, interesting objects,\u201d says McCormack. When she first moved to London, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jessicamccormack.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">McCormack<\/a> interned at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sothebys.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sotheby\u2019s<\/a> in the jewellery department, which turned out to be a turning point for her work as a designer. \u201cFor the first time, I was amongst truly special, important pieces, from Russian crown jewels to vintage Cartier,\u201d she says. She set off designing in a studio in Clerkenwell, working with a few craftspeople who are still by her side some 17 years later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom the beginning, I knew I really wanted my designs to centre around diamonds, and to make them wearable and cool,\u201d says McCormack of her vision. It\u2019s a goal she\u2019s no doubt accomplished. It\u2019s why the industry\u2019s fashion elite, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/zendaya\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zendaya<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/zoeisabellakravitz\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zo\u00eb Kravitz<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/victoriabeckham\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Victoria Beckham<\/a>, gravitate toward McCormack\u2019s treasured works. In turn, McCormack tapped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/zoeisabellakravitz\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kravitz<\/a> as her brand\u2019s first ever ambassador. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/zoeisabellakravitz\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zo\u00eb<\/a> is a powerhouse of creativity. She has such a unique, individual sense of style and she is a client, so I know she understands the jewellery. Our best pieces should not be saved and worn only once or twice a year, but really enjoyed day-to-day, in McCormack\u2019s expert opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One piece in heavy rotation for many is an engagement ring. \u201cEngagement rings are innately very symbolic,\u201d says McCormack. She takes great care in choosing the right stone for the design and its wearer. \u201cI think I have always looked for diamonds that have an individual character, so that they bring out the best in a design, but more importantly, have a uniqueness that might resonate with someone equally characterful,\u201d McCormack explains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen creating an engagement ring it\u2019s really about making something that the client will want to wear forever, so naturally, you have to think about how the ring will feel on their finger; does it sit well, is it comfortable, is the stone secure?\u201d she says. It should be equally exciting. \u201cI think the most important thing is to buy a ring that you really love,\u201d says McCormack. \u201cThat may sound obvious, but many of our clients come in with a firm idea of what they want and then leave with something completely different, so my advice would be to love the look and design of the ring above all else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While McCormack\u2019s designs might take inspiration and stones from the past, she creates with the future in mind too. \u201cI want to make jewellery that is timeless so that it can be loved, worn, and
