Haworth has no appetite for safe bets\u2014nary a basic item exists in her curation of knitwear from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/vitelli_official\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/vitelli_official\/\">Vitelli<\/a>, bodycon dresses by the inclusive Belgian label <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/estermanas\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/estermanas\/\">Ester Manas<\/a>, and deconstructed raver-wear by Berlin-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/ottolinger1000\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/ottolinger1000\/\">Ottolinger<\/a>. \u201cThis whole thing is a massive risk, but I\u2019d rather come out of the gate swinging,\u201d she says, opting to stock near-complete collections from each designer so as to paint an adequate picture of their points of view. By contrast, most boutiques dip cautiously into experimental waters. \u201cI would like to buy the weird thing and test drive that and see if it works,\u201d says Haworth. Case in point: the beautiful, historically accurate clothing made with antique tablecloths by New York\u2019s emerging DIY queen, Zoe Gustavia Anna Whalen. \u201cI wanted all of the brands to be something you would have an emotional connection to,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"766\" src=\"https:\/\/smagazineofficial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/aboustely-fabrics--1024x766.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43079\" srcset=\"https:\/\/smagazineofficial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/aboustely-fabrics--1024x766.png 1024w, https:\/\/smagazineofficial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/aboustely-fabrics--300x224.png 300w, https:\/\/smagazineofficial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/aboustely-fabrics--768x574.png 768w, https:\/\/smagazineofficial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/aboustely-fabrics-.png 1492w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Having owned two of her own fashion labels, Haworth sees Absolutely Fabrics as having the potential to influence the success of rising talents. \u201cThere used to be a time when retailers launched designers. I don\u2019t need to be that person, but I do want to be a real partner,\u201d she says. Haworth spent a decade in New York, getting her fashion degree at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/parsonsschoolofdesign\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/parsonsschoolofdesign\/\">Parsons School of Design<\/a> and launching her eponymous fashion line, Kaelen. Later, she launched her second label, Second Sight, before moving home to Toronto in 2020. \u201cIn the back of my mind I always wanted to have a store, and it never would have worked in New York\u2014the landscape is different,\u201d she says. To wit, AF Studio\u2014located on the store\u2019s second floor is offered up as a space where creatives and fashion enthusiasts can hobnob at curated events ranging from designer trunk shows to \u201chigh concept dinner parties\u201d (Haworth images a <em>Top Chef<\/em>-style challenge, where meals are solely made from rhubarb, for instance). The space is also available for photo shoots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Haworth wants to bring back the glory days of boutique department stores like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/colette\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/colette\/\">Colette<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/openingceremony\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/openingceremony\/\">Opening Ceremony<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t want to recreate that because it\u2019s been done, but I do want to find out: what was that
